My Qualifications

I’m running for Brookline Housing Authority Commissioner because I care deeply about ensuring that every BHA resident has a safe, stable, and dignified home – and because the BHA is entering an exciting and transformative period that calls for experienced, thoughtful leadership.

Brookline is rightly proud of its public housing. For decades, the BHA has provided affordable homes for thousands of families and seniors, and the Authority has ambitious plans to continue to renovate (and in some cases replace) its remaining older properties to ensure they remain strong for generations to come. I want to help continue that important work.

My Commitment to the BHA’s Future

The BHA is preparing for some of the most consequential capital and redevelopment initiatives in its history. These projects will shape the quality and availability of public housing in Brookline for decades.

My goals as Commissioner are to:

  • Support the BHA’s long-term redevelopment and modernization plan, including critical upgrades to older buildings and thoughtful redevelopment that preserves affordability, continues BHA's leadership in energy efficiency and sustainability, strengthens resident quality of life, and adds new affordable homes wherever possible.

  • Bring my deep legal and financial expertise to the Board as the BHA evaluates opportunities, partnerships, financing structures, and regulatory requirements.

  • Strengthen resident voices and transparency, ensuring that residents are heard and supported throughout renovation and redevelopment processes, and work with staff and residents to maintain and enhance needed resident services.

  • Continue Brookline’s track record of stable, sound management while positioning the Authority to take advantage of new state and federal resources.

I believe strongly in the mission of public housing, and I want to help ensure that the BHA’s current momentum translates into long-lasting success for residents and the community.

My Brookline Public Service

My work with the BHA will build on years of involvement in Brookline’s housing and civic life. I currently serve as:

  • Town Meeting Member for Precinct 17

  • Member of Brookline’s Housing Advisory Board

  • Chair of the HAB’s Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) Subcommittee

  • Leader with Brookline for Everyone, our town’s grassroots pro-housing and mixed-use advocacy organization

These roles have given me a deep understanding of Brookline’s housing needs, planning process, and long-term goals, and a strong working relationship with town officials, planning staff, advocates, and residents.

I also serve as Treasurer and Board Member of the Jewish Alliance for Law and Social Action (JALSA), a progressive social action organization that strongly supports affordable housing initiatives state-wide,  and as Chair of the Castle Square Tenants Organization Charitable Trust, which makes grants for affordable housing and youth development through Greater Boston; these activities reflect my broader commitment to equity, justice, and community engagement.

My Professional Background

Before retiring at the beginning of 2020, I spent my entire legal career working in the field of affordable housing and community development.

I primarily represented nonprofit, mission-driven organizations in Massachusetts and across the country that build, own, and operate affordable and mixed-income housing. My work included complex financings, redevelopment planning, public-private partnerships, tax credit transactions, and long-term regulatory compliance.

My career highlights include:

  • Serving as General Counsel and Senior Vice President of The Community Builders, Inc., one of the nation’s leading nonprofit affordable housing developers.

  • Co-founding Klein Hornig LLP, a leading national law firm devoted exclusively to affordable housing and community development law, with offices in Boston and Washington, DC.

  • Advising public housing authorities and community-based organizations on major redevelopment efforts, multi-phase public housing developments, and innovative mixed-income and mixed-use projects.

This experience -- combining law, finance, real estate, and nonprofit governance -- directly aligns with the work the BHA is undertaking today.

I hold both my Bachelor’s degree and my Juris Doctor from the University of Michigan.
